oth comic genius Peter Sellers and director Blake Edwards reteamed to make a fifth "Pink Panther" episode. The end result was "Revenge of the Pink Panther". A big hit at the box-office, this film continues the further adventures (or is that misadventures?) of the bumbling Inspector Jacques Clouseau.
In the story, we are introduced to a drug lord named Phillipe Douvier who is in an akward predicament: Douvier wants to get in on a herion deal that would earn him 50 million francs but his American couterparts, who are making the offer, believe that Douvier no longer has the guts or strength to get involved in this type of operation.
So Douvier gathers his associates to help him come up with a solution. They decide that the best way to impress the Americans is to eliminate the most important man in France.
That man is none other than Chief Inspector Clouseau! Sounds simple enough but then again this IS Clouseau, whose incredibly dumb luck has saved him on numerous occasions.
Douvier's men try twice to knock off the inspector (with a bombing and sending out a super human assassin) but these two attempts fail. But their third attempt has apparently worked. The news of Clouseau's "death" brings all of France into a state of shock.
In fact, the only person (other than Douvier) who is celebrating Clouseau's muder is ex-inspector Dreyfuss who regains his sanity when he hears the news!
What nobody knows however is that Clouseau is indeed alive and is now sleuthing around incogito (along with his manservant Kato) in the hopes of tracking down his "killers" and intercepting the herion deal...

Is this the best of the Panther movies? Well, in all honesty, no.
"Revenge of the Pink Panther" is a bit of a mixed bag. There is a glaring lack of plot and most of the secondary character's are not drawn out enough to make them interesting. And the level of hilarity seems to be bit lower than usual.
But probably the sadest thing about this Panther is that it was last for Peter Sellers before his death in 1980. Still, with the brilliant Sellers onboard, the movie is still able to squeeze in a few decent laughs that make it watchable, at least for Panther fans.
After "Revenge of the Pink Panther" was released, Peter Sellers and Jim Muloney began to pen out another Panther episode "The Romance of the Pink Panther". In the proposed story, Clouseau is having an affair with a beautiful spy who, unbeknownst to him, is also the criminal he is chasing. But Sellers death in 1980 prevented this film from becoming a reality.
Sellers suffered from a mild heart problem prior to production. This prevented him from performing some of the physical gags that he was able to do in previous Panther movies.
In the film trailer (you can see it on the DVD), Sellers character is referred to as Andre Clouseau. His real name is Jacques Clouseau.
Though this was Peter Sellers last Panther film before his death, he did appear in 1982's "The Trail of the Pink Panther". Director Blake Edwards managed to incorporate him into this movie using outtakes from previous Pink Panther movies.
It took Sellers over 25 takes in order to try and hold back the laughter while filming the scene in the elevator when someone breaks wind. The final scene that can be seen in the movie is a take that director Blake Edwards called for after a lunch break. Some one had burped and thats when Sellers had turned towards the back of the lift and banged his head against it. He can still be seen turning towards the back. [Thanks to Catie]
Believe it or not Dyan Cannon, who plays Clouseau's love interest in the film, was almost 40 during the time of production.
When Closueau and Kato attmept to break into the night club, they end up crashing into a bakery window. Kato falls in again later and there is wedding cake waiting there for him to land on. It couldn't have survived the first crash.

Can you help? Do you know any of the filming locations used for Revenge of the Pink Panther? [Please send them in]
The sound track is nothing too special. However there is an interesting variation of the "Pink Panther Theme" here. It's a more retro sort of version and is a refreshing break from the original Henry Mancini song.
